Homa Arshad

Miss Arshad is the Lead Clinical Surgeon in the Trauma and Orthopaedics department at the Royal London Hospital. She teaches as international faculty for AO and the London Pelvic FRCS Viva course and is a National instructor of Advanced Trauma Life Support instructors. Since returning to London, Miss Arshad has been appointed as Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer and tutor for the International Orthopaedic Trauma Sciences MSc at Queen Mary University of London.

Professor Acharya is a consultant at Frenchay and the Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Southmead in Bristol with special interest in orthopaedic trauma and lower limb joint replacement, in particular pelvic reconstruction, complex trauma, hip and knee replacement and revision hip surgery.

Mohamed is a Paediatric Orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital, with an interest in hip surgery, adolescent hip preservation, limb reconstruction & complex trauma. His research interests are in the field of paediatric pelvic trauma & limb recon.

Nik Kanakaris

Nik Kanakaris MD PhD, is a Consultant pelvic and acetabular reconstruction surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals since 2008 and the Clinical Lead for the LEEDS Major Trauma Centre since 2013. He is the Chair of the Major Incident Steering Group, Lead for Research and Innovation for Orthopaedic Trauma at LTHT, and vice-Chair of the EFORT Trauma Education Group.  He has published extensively his clinical and research work in more than 170 peer-reviewed scientific publications and over 80 chapters of scientific textbooks.

Mohammed Rafi iqbal

Consultant Pelvic and Acetabular Orthopaedic Surgeon at Salford Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He has a wide experience of pelvic and acetabular surgery, as well as contributing to the Major Trauma service in Salford. He completed a fellowship in Pelvic and Acetabular Surgery at King’s College Hospital in London, as well as a Hip Arthoplasty fellowship in Cambridge.

Mr Nikhil Shah

Mr Nikhil Shah is a fellowship-trained consultant at Wrightington hospital with an interest in complex primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery, periprosthetic fractures, complex acetabular reconstruction, pelvic discontinuity and custom acetabular reconstructions. His specialist trauma practice includes the management of pelvic-acetabular injuries which he delivers out of the regional major trauma centre as part of a regional team. He has won several awards including the prestigious Rothman Ranawat American Hip Society Travelling Fellowship, and BOA- Zimmer Travelling fellowship. He was also the Young Ambassador of the British Orthopaedic association to Hong Kong in 2004 after being awarded the Walter Mercer medal and the Edward Burton Memorial Prize FRCS (Orth) for FRCS (Orth) exam.

Rafik Yassa

Mr Yassa is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon based at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. Mr Yassa went on to undertake his MSc in Trauma and Orthopaedics. Mr Yassa has completed his Higher Orthopaedics training in Manchester rotation. Mr Yassa undertook A-O Fellowship at Krankenhaus der Barmerzigen BrÃder, Germany and a Post-CCT DePuy Knee Fellowship at York Teaching Hospital NHS foundation Trust. His trauma experience is in Pelvic and acetabular ad lower limb trauma.

Mr Vijaya Kempanna is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic surgeon at Salford Royal Hospital and Northern Care alliance Hospitals at Manchester, specialised in Pelvic & Acetabular trauma Surgery, Complex lower limb trauma, Hip and Knee arthroplasty.  He is a Gold Medallist in MS (Orth) from Bangalore University, India. He undertook fellowship in Complex trauma and Pelvic & Acetabular Surgery at Southampton University Hospitals.

Mr Gill is a Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon at Salford Royal Infirmary. He was awarded an international surgical fellowship at Royal Perth Hospital, Australia for specialist training in joint replacement surgery. He also completed specialist training in complex trauma during fellowship at Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in 2012 and Visiting Pelvic Trauma Fellowship at Wrightington and Wigan NHS trust. Caroline is a consultant and Professor of orthopaedic surgeon at St George’s Hospital, London. She completed her Orthopaedic and Trauma training on the Pott Rotation based at Barts and The London Hospitals with a further period of training at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital whilst completing an MD, doctoral thesis and MSc in Orthopaedic. Her fellowships included trauma at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Australia and knee surgery at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals in London. As part of AOUK she chairs research and careers development. She lectures nationally and internationally on patellofemoral instability and trauma.

Mr Ismail is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in knee and hip surgery at Manchester university foundation trust . He has visited centres of excellence in orthopaedic surgery in the US and Europe to learn new techniques. Mr Ismail specialises in all aspects of hip and knee surgery including sports injuries. He is very experienced lower limb trauma surgeon with wealth of experience in dealing with complex trauma.

Leela Bian

Leela is Academic Head of Dept, Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Manchester. Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Manchester University Hospitals. She completed Orthopaedic Training in London, and advanced fellowships in Knee and Hip Surgery in Sydney and London. She was a Consultant Surgeon and a Clinician Scientist in Edinburgh for eight years prior to moving to Manchester. She represented the UK on the prestigious ABC Fellowship. Other awards include NRS Clinician Scientist Award, BASK Travelling Fellowship Award, Best paper at the British Orthopaedic Research Society, Presidents Prize Paper at the Royal Society of Medicine, The William Little Medal (twice). She currently serves on the Executive of The British Association for Surgery of the Knee as Treasurer, The Board of the ICRS and Chair the International Cartilage Repair Society Registry and The British Orthopaedic Association Research Committee.

Mr Aiman Khuda

Aiman is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Salford Royal Hospital Major Trauma Centre (MTC). Aiman has developed a broad experience in managing major trauma from training in 5 different MTCs. Aiman’s special interest is in Limb Reconstruction Surgery, managing sequelae of severe limb trauma and in Joint Preserving Knee Surgery through re-alignment (Osteotomy). Aiman is the Clinical Director for Major Trauma and Orthoplastics for the Northern Care Alliance and the Regional Surgical Advisor for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Consultant Trauma and Limb Reconstruction Surgeon at Manchester University Hospital NHS Trust. Paul was fellowship trained at Leeds Major Trauma Centre and the Advanced Orthopaedic training centre in Tygerberg, South Africa. He has an interest in treating severe traumatic lower limb injuries, bone infection and Lower limb deformity.

Mr Sanat Shah

Sanat Shah is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon based at Manchester university hospital NHS foundation trust since 2003. He has undergone extensive postgraduate training in India and the United Kingdom with an AO Fellowship under Professor H J Ostern at Allgemeines Krankenhaus, Celle, Germany in 1996. He underwent his specialist orthopaedic training in and around the Manchester and Southampton regions and developed sub-specialty interest in hip and knee replacement and revision surgery and lower limb trauma surgery.

Prakash is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon based at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since 2011. He has undergone extensive postgraduate training in India and the United Kingdom including Hip and Knee Fellowship for revision and reconstruction surgery.  He underwent his specialist orthopaedic training in Liverpool. He has special interest and vast experience in managing complex lower limb trauma, Periprosthetic Fractures, Hip and knee revision surgeries.

Mr Majeed works at Manchester Foundation Trust and his expertise include managing a wide range of foot and ankle pathologies and sports injuries. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer and has a leading role in orthopaedic research with an extensive portfolio of his published articles and book chapters on key topics in foot and ankle surgery and trauma. He has presented his work at various international and national forums including as an invited speaker. He has a lead role in undergraduate and postgraduate foot and ankle teaching. He has recently been awarded a Teaching Excellence Award by the University of Manchester.

Eimhear Quinn

I am a consultant in emergency medicine and major trauma working in Salford Royal. My personal interest lies in trauma and pre hospital emergency medicine. Alongside my ED work, I am a flight doctor with North West Air Ambulance and volunteer as a BASICS response doctor and chair for NWPCCC. I also teach on quite a few surgical and PHEM courses including ATACC, the medical lead for NTACC and the Medical Governance lead for Lancashire police including TAC ops, public order and firearms.

Dr Ed Denison Davies

Ed Denison Davies is a consultant in anaesthesia and critical care medicine at Royal Preston Hospital, the Major Trauma Centre for Lancashire.  He is also a HEMS consultant and training lead for North West Air Ambulance as well as the Clinical Director for Lancashire and South Cumbria Major Trauma Network.  He did his training in London and also on Kent Surrey Sussex HEMS before moving up to Lancashire in 2013.  His interests include resuscitation, trauma care, neuro critical care, education and system pathways.

Dr James Gibson

James is a consultant anaesthetist at Wirral University Teaching hospital and a prehospital care doctor with North West Air ambulance.
His areas of special interest are in anaesthesia for emergency surgery, sedation and anaesthetic support to patients with complex needs. He is the lead for anaesthetic and perioperative clinical governance and the anaesthetic major trauma lead.
A long term interest in trauma, prehospital and retrieval medicine led to fellowships in Glasgow and Sydney; on returning to the UK to take up his consultant job at Wirral, his interest in prehospital medicine continued and he has been flying with North West Air Ambulance since 2017.

Ananth Ebinesan

Ananth completed his orthopaedic training within the North West Deanery followed by fellowships in Wrightington and Liverpool. He is currently Clinical Director for T&O at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He also serves on BESS council and has been involved with NICE guidelines. His shoulder and elbow surgical procedures include rotator cuff surgery, instability, arthroplasty, complex shoulder and elbow trauma and scapula fractures.

Bibhas Roy

Mr Roy completed his orthopaedic training within Yorkshire and gained specialist experience in shoulder and elbow surgery during a 12 month fellowship at the Nottingham shoulder unit in 2004. During his higher surgical training, he completed a master’s degree in bioengineering with Leeds University and also holds a diploma in medical informatics. His shoulder and elbow surgical procedures include arthroscopy, tennis elbow, complex rotator cuff surgery, complex upper limb trauma and scapula fractures.

Mustafa Rashid

Mr Rashid is a consultant shoulder & elbow surgeon at Manchester university hospitals NHS trust. He trained in London on the Percivall Pott Orthopaedic Rotation and completed fellowships at Wrightington hospital and at the University of Calgary / Alberta Health Services. He completed his PhD at the university of Oxford. His clinical interests include shoulder instability, rotator cuff tears, and glenohumeral arthropathy and upper limb trauma.

Chris Peach

Professor Peach is a Consultant at the Manchester University Foundation Trust. Chris graduated as a doctor from Imperial College School of Medicine and trained as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in London, Oxford and the North West. Chris trained as a fellow in the Upper Limb Unit at Wrightington Hospital. He also was awarded the Sheffield Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship. He has also trained at the Mayo Clinic in the United States with Dr Shawn O’Driscoll. Chris is the Chairman of the Research committee for the British Elbow and Shoulder Society and is committed to supporting high quality research in orthopaedic surgery.

Ronnie Davies

Mr Davies is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon working at Manchester Foundation Trust.  He has a specialist interest in shoulder & elbow surgery. He trained at Cambridge University medical school and completed his specialist training in Manchester.  He subsequently undertook higher fellowship training in shoulder & elbow surgery at the renowned Robert Jones Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, before commencing work as a consultant in Manchester. His is the regional training teaching director.

Bhanu Mishra

Bhanu completed his orthopaedic training in 2019 (CESR) followed by Sports fellowship in Canada and Shoulder and Elbow at Manchester Foundation Trust.

He is currently Shoulder and Elbow Consultant at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. His shoulder and elbow surgical procedures include rotator cuff surgery, instability, arthroplasty, complex shoulder and elbow trauma including scapula fractures.

Chris Jenkins

Mr. Chris Jenkins is a Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. Following higher surgical training on the Severn Deanery Rotation, he completed two years of subspeciality shoulder and elbow fellowships in Wrightington and Exeter. In addition to completing an MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering, his upper limb research has been published and presented at both national and international scientific meetings. He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, having organised and taught on numerous local and national courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate learners.

Mr Fanous is a Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon based at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. He completed his orthopaedic training within North West London and holds a Masters in Musculoskeletal Sciences from Oxford University. Fellowship trained in Nottingham he performs primary, complex and revision shoulder and elbow joint replacements. He specialises in arthroscopic (key-hole) surgery and upper limb trauma surgery.

James Bedford

James Bedford is Specialty Lead Consultant for Burns & Plastic Surgery at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He joined the department in 2018 following training in plastic and hand surgery in the North West, followed by a National Advanced Training Fellowship in Hand Surgery in Leeds. His special interests are in children’s hand surgery and nerve surgery including brachial plexus injury and spasticity. Mr Bedford enjoyes collaborating with surgeons in diverse specialties including orthopaedics, neurosurgery, general surgery and cardiothoracics for patients who require complex soft tissue reconstruction.

Christopher Duff

Mr Duff is a Consultant in Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgery at at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He has interests in hand and upper limb surgery with a particular emphasis on major nerve disease and injury and neurofibromatosis (type 1) surgery. He has experience with common hand conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, myxoid or ganglion cysts, trigger finger, Dupuytren’s disease, trauma and arthritis in the hand. Mr Duff is the Regional Training Programme Director for the Plastic Surgery Specialty Trainees under Health Education North West (HENW).

Kaushik Chakrabarty

Mr Chakrabarty is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. Having gained experience as a registrar in orthopaedic surgery, undertaking a 2-year period of research at the University of Sheffield, obtaining my He completed an MD in skin composite development. He trained in the North West in hand surgery, and in Toronto at the Hospital for Sick Children in Paediatric plastic surgery including facial re-animation and microsurgery. He worked as a Consultant in plastic surgery for almost 5 years in London, before returning to the North West in 2012.

Anuj Mishra

Mr Mishra is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive, Hand and Peripheral Nerve Surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He studied at medical school in Delhi University and went on to complete his Masters in Surgery and Plastic Surgery. After his initial training in the prestigious plastic surgery units in Chelmsford and Swansea, he was appointed to the Mersey Plastic Surgery Registrar Training scheme. He completed fellowship training in Liverpool and Birmingham where he successfully undertook his British and European Hand Diploma exams in 2013. He then went on to develop his specialist interest in peripheral nerve surgery and refine his skills in major trauma management and microsurgical reconstruction.

Mr Bhalaik is a Consultant Hand and Upper Limb Surgeon in Merseyside. He treats all aspects of traumatic and complex hand and upper limb injuries.. He was awarded “Trainer of the Year” in 2012 for his contribution to orthopaedic training.  He is a member of the faculty for AO Courses, tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons and is the Associate Head of School of Surgery, NHS England. He was the Training Programme Director for Orthopaedics for Health Education England North West. He is an examiner for the Intercollegiate Board and is a member of the BSSH Education Committee and was a member of the BSSH Instructional Course Committee.

David Bell

David Bell is a hand plastic and reconstructive surgeon based in Whiston hospital, Merseyside since 2009.  He specialises in hand and lower limb reconstruction and has been involved with a number of Bfirst projects and joint projects with BSSH particularly Sudan, but has also been to Myanmar, Kenya and Sierra Leone.

Mike Woodruff

Mike is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist Surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Mike completed separate Hand and Wrist Fellowships at Queens Medical Centre Nottingham, Wrightington Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. Mike has served on a number of Training Committees including HEENW Trauma and Orthopaedic STC, the BSSH Education and Training Committee and the RCS Edinburgh Younger Fellows Committee. He is currently the Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery Training Programme Director for NHSE NW and Chair of the Cumbria and South Lancashire Surgical Hand Society. Sumedh Talwalkar

Sumedh is a consultant orthopaedic hand and wrist surgeon at Wrightington hospital. He completed his Orthopaedic training in the Northwest of England, having worked as a Senior Fellow in Upper Limb Surgery at Wrightington Hospital prior to taking up his Consultant post in 2009. In addition to being in charge of the senior fellowship programme at Wrightington Hospital, Sumedh also manages the highly successful FRCS Hand Course, which is held three times a year. Kohila Sigamoney

Kohila is a consultant hand & orthopaedic surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. She was the TIG hand surgery fellow at Wrightington hospital. She is the Culture and Diversity Champion for the North West lead the nation research stream for the DEI BOA/BOTA Champions.

Rahul Kakkar

Rahul is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in all elective upper limb surgery and general trauma. Mr Kakkar’s main interests are in reconstructive surgery in the upper limb, and in the treatment of degenerative and sports injuries. Mr Kakkar is a keen teacher and am on the faculty for the ChM – Trauma & Orthopaedics course run by Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. In addition, he examines on FRCS (Orth) Upper limb and Basic Sciences revision course at Wrightington Hospital.

Joseph Alsousou

Pelvis, Acetabulum and hip arthroplasty consultant surgeon at Manchester University Hospital NHS trust. He was fellowship trained in both Oxford and Cambridge. His clinical focus is on Pelvis trauma surgery, periprosthetic and complex hip arthroplasty. His academic work has attracted several awards including: EFORT, BOA, BOFAS, BASEM and ARUK awards. He is Manchester Trauma director.

James Kennedy

Mr Kennedy is a Hand & Wrist surgeon at Manchester Foundation Trust. He completed Trauma & Orthopaedic higher surgical training in the North West and is dual fellowship trained through the TIG in Orthoplastics at The Hooper Hand Unit, Edinburgh and the Liverpool Hand Unit. His interests are in complex wrist surgery and hand & wrist arthroplasty. He holds the European diploma in hand surgery and is undertaking the British Diploma of Hand Surgery
