Welcome to Manchester HALO Course.
This is a one-day course of High Acuity, Low Occurrence (HALO) Procedures skills course. The course is delivered in collaboration between MATT and Manchester Trauma.
OVERVIEW:
High Acuity Low Occurrence (HALO) procedures course prepare candidates for high-consequence patient encounters. The HALO (or High Acuity, Low Occurrence) procedures course includes the following: Lateral canthotomy, subclavian access, Resuscitative hysterotomy, Emergency delivery and emergency amputation.
All procedures are performed on fresh cadavers with 1:2 cadaver to candidate ratio.
Suitability
Any grade doctor, or allied health professional, with an interest in acute resuscitative emergency care.
Notes
Attendees will need to bring hospital identification for admission.
No cameras or telephones are allowed in the cadaveric lab.
Cancellation policy: 50% until 30 days before the event. No refund thereafter.

IAN TYRRELL-MARSH
Ian Tyrrell-Marsh MBChB, FRCA, FIMC, DipIMM, DipIMC is a Consultant in Prehospital care, Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine in the North-West. He has extensive experience in trauma care, working at a busy MTC in Manchester and having completed secondments with London HEMS, Essex and Herts Air Ambulance then working for The Air Ambulance Service. He currently works with the North-West Air Ambulance as part of their Senior Medical Team. He has interests in all-things resuscitation, Human Factors and DIY.

Annabel Sharkey
Annabel Sharkey is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at the University Hospital of South Manchester in the UK. She specialized in Cardiothoracic Surgery. Her research areas are Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery, Mesothelioma, Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery, Heart Transplant, and Minimal Invasive Surgery.

Christopher Gray
Consultant working in Intensive Care Medicine and Adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine at Manchester Royal Infirmary and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital with extensive pre-hospital experience and a love of teaching. Interested in emergency and critical care medicine, trauma and ultrasonography.

Professor Simon Carly
is Creator, Webmaster, owner and Editor in Chief of the St Emlyn’s blog and podcast. He is Visiting Professor at Manchester Metropolitan University and honorary MAHSC Professor at the University of Manchester. He is a Consultant in adult and paediatric Emergency Medicine at Manchester Foundation Trust. He is co-founder of the BestBets website, St.Emlyn’s social media learning platforms and the MSc in emergency medicine at Manchester Metropolitan University. He is an Education Associate with the General Medical Council. He is the Dean at the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. His research interests include diagnostics, Medical Education, Major incident management & Evidence based Emergency Medicine.

Andrew Duncan
Andy is our Lead HEMS Paramedic. He joined the charity in 2013, and his role is to look after the clinical and operational performance of our HEMS Paramedics as well as responding and looking after patients alongside his colleagues.
Andy joined the North West Ambulance Service in 2004 (formerly known as Lancashire Ambulance Service) and trained to be a paramedic before joining the North West Air Ambulance Charity.
In addition to his role here, Andy is a reservist with the RAF medical reserves and has the potential to be deployed on behalf of the RAF to offer medical support around the world and he regularly maintains his training for this potential eventuality

Deborah Righ
I am a HEMS Critical Care Paramedic for the North West Air Ambulance Charity. I have been with the HEMS team full time for almost ten years. I have recently been appointment the CCP Educator role at NWAA which I am very excited about. I have been a part of the ATACC faculty since 2015 and find teaching very rewarding. I would say I have a decent amount of experience with regards to enhanced pre-hospital care, including surgical procedures and I keen to share any little tricks I have picked up along the way

Stella Smith
Stella Smith MBBS, FRCS is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon in Manchester with a trauma background. She undertook two post CCT-Fellowships in Major Trauma in the UK and South Africa. These fellowships provided her with a wealth of experience managing major trauma patients, especially those with penetrating trauma. In 2019, Stella helped to reconfigure and rejuvenate the Major Trauma Service in Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester, UK. She is the Clinical Lead for the Major Trauma Service and works works with the Greater Manchester Major Trauma Network. Stella has a humanitarian interest and, in 2019, has been on call for the UK Emergency Medical Team to deploy to areas of natural disaster on behalf of the Department for International Development.

JOSEPH ALSOUSOU
Pelvis, Acetabulum and hip arthroplasty consultant surgeon at Manchester University Hospital NHS trust. He was fellowship trained in both Oxford and Cambridge. His clinical focus is on Pelvis trauma surgery, periprosthetic and complex hip arthroplasty. His academic work has attracted several awards including: EFORT, BOA, BOFAS, BASEM and ARUK awards. He is the founder director of Rooms4nhs.com charitable initiative
